School Visits

I am an author who is passionate about mentoring students in their writing endeavors and to share with them the power that writing provides. That is why I have and continue to volunteer at literary nonprofits such as 826LA and DSTL Arts in my hometown of Los Ángeles. I would love to visit your campus to provide students the chance to meet a living writer and explore place/Los Ángeles, race, and writing the other, all topics I explore in my writing, or to explore a topic of your choice in a workshop presentation.

Contact The Author

To have me visit your school, please contact me at to discuss date, honorarium, schedule, location and any equipment or materials I will need. Also provide information about age group, number of sessions, number of students per session and any special needs of your school.

The host is responsible for an honorarium due the day of the visit. If there is travel involved, the host is responsible for travel costs, lodging and meals unless honorarium is all-inclusive. There are no travel costs for any visits that take place in the L.A. metropolitan area, where I live.

Student Preparation

The most effective way to ensure a successful author visit is having students read my chapbook Concrete Paradise in advance. Read and discuss Concrete Paradise with the students and consider having them complete an individual or class project based on any of my ideas and/or themes involving race, place, Los Ángeles, writing the other, or any other ideas and/or themes that I touch on in my chapbook. If this is not an option, consider sharing a poem or two, my biography and articles written about me (e.g. interviews) so that students will have some information prior to my visit. Book Sales and Autographing

My visits include a book-signing session. You can order from Finishing Line Press or I would be happy to bring copies of Concrete Paradise for sale. Please remember that books should be ordered two months in advance to allow time for shipping. For bulk orders of 10 or more copies email Finishing Line Press at:
